Professionals Sign Collective Agreements With New Brunswick Government

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has signed two collective agreements with groups represented by the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees.

The first group, the Medical Science Professionals, represents about 1,850 employees that includes, among others, medical laboratory technologists, respiratory therapists, diagnostic imaging technologists, medical radiation and sonography technologists, and clinical engineering technologists with the Horizon and Vitalité Health Networks and FacilicorpNB.

The second group, the Specialized Health Care Professionals, consists of about 1,550 employees including physiotherapists, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, occupational therapists, psychologists and speech language pathologists with the Horizon and Vitalité Health Networks.

“In October of 2014, 16 of 24 collective agreements were expired,” said Human Resources Minister Denis Landry. “By establishing a fair but fiscally responsible bargaining mandate, we have been able to reach nine agreements, including these two, since December 2014. This illustrates our commitment to ensuring that the government treats its employees with fairness by respecting the collective bargaining process.”

The five-year and three-month agreements include annual economic wage increases of one per cent and an adjustment tied to the discontinuance of the retirement allowance benefit.
