A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded discovery of 11.48 lbs. of marijuana concealed in a spare tire. The value of the marijuana was estimated at approximately $28,700. The subject was arrested and the narcotics were seized.

“CBP officers are trained to identify indicators warranting further inspection of individuals arriving at the U.S. border,” said Acting Port Director Cary Frieling. “Our officers are the first line of defense for this country, and interdicting narcotics is one of CBP’s critical responsibilities in securing and protecting the homeland.”

Niagara Falls Police Department officers took custody of the subject along with the illegal narcotics.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
